Dan's first interest in entrepreneurship began with a missed train and an unplanned stay in a cheap youth hostel in Berlin at the age of 11. This experience captured his imagination and inspired him to start his first business at an early age, turning his grandmother’s empty apartment in Ukraine into a bustling short-term hostel brand.

By the time he was 20, Mishin had developed this scrappy passion project into a successful brand known as Bear Hostels, which became the leading youth hostel company in the CIS region.

In 2012 Bear Hostels was majority-acquired by the largest restaurant holding in Russia "Planet of Hospitality". That same year, the holding company announced a $100M investment program in the Joint Venture and has appointed Daniel Mishin as the CEO of the new venture called "Planet of Hostels".

Under his leadership, the company expanded into new markets and launched new brands, including "Privet Hostel"—the largest hostel in Eastern Europe with conference facilities, gyms, communal bars, and 300+ beds.

Dan exited "Planet of Hostels" in 2016 to move to America.

After moving to the US, Dan started June Homes - a technology-enabled residential housing company based in New York.

Since opening their first property in Harlem in 2017, June Homes has scaled their operations to 2,500 units across 11 US cities and reached $54M in ARR while turning EBITDA positive.

Backed by $70M of venture capital from some of the world's best investors including Softbank Ventures Asia, Demi Lovato, Quiet Capital, FJ labs, Altair Capital, TQ ventures, Scott Belsky, June Homes is on a mission to build the world's largest housing company that doesn't own a single property.

In August 2023, Dan has made a decision to transition from the CEO role to the Chairman of the Board and was succeeded by a long-time June Homes executive Mr. Mauricio Zuniga who continues to successfully run the business currently.

In 2024, Dan started a new business in the legal technology space. Dan's vision is to increase access to justice for millions of Americans by utilizing the power of AI. Currently in "Stealth Mode".

Dan is based in New York and is an avid hiker, trail runner and gym enthusiast.

He loves traveling and has visited over 70 countries. He traveled via Trans-Siberian railroad from Saint Petersburg to Beijing and hiked numerous multi-day trails across South America.

His dream is complete the Appalachian trail from Maine to Georgia (2,200 miles), the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada (2,650 miles) and to visit every US National Park 🇺🇸.

Insanely Good: Making Big Business Out of Social Philanthropy

The reckoning for entrepreneurs in the tech industry was not the loudest to arrive this year, but it came colorfully: the struggle to set boundaries against hate speech on Twitter, the congressional hearings for Facebook and its subsequent moves toward content moderation, the weird and weepy interview that Elon Musk gave the Times.
